No posts from May to July then three posts in a week. Pretty on brand for my posting pattern.
I’m a creature of momentum and feedback. With the right momentum I’m basically the Juggernaut (from X-men for those of you uncultured swine). With the proper amount of feedback I’ll pump stuff out like Stephen King.
Now, that isn’t to say that I need constant positive feedback and I’m a needy, shallow person desperate for praise. Well, I am that, but I’m also someone who needs to know people care. I need to know that people actually want to read what I write and want more of it.
Don’t get me wrong: I write for me. (I think I used the colon there correctly, but honestly have no idea. More on that in a minute). I’ve always written for me and I always will write for me. When I am old enough to retire in the year 2145 I’m pretty sure I’ll still be writing in some fashion. Even if we’ve moved beyond using our hands for typing and merely beam our fantasies right into each other’s heads.
I love writing. I always have. I will never stop writing. I may delay writing and take a break from writing due to other circumstances, but I’ll never stop writing. So, when I say I want to know other people want my writing I mean that it excites me and makes me want to write more. It makes me motivated to finish a story instead of coming up with three hundred half developed ideas before moving onto the next one. It’s a proverbial kick in the pants.
I’ve been going back and forth on all of the future possibilities I have in my writing career. I’m seriously getting closer to thinking about starting a Patreon, although I don’t know where to focus it. I’m looking into posting stories on other sites, fetish sites, and participating in those communities with a nudge towards “hey, if you like that I have other stuff over here.” And, of course, I’m still building my back catalog of stories for my pen names. Currently I only have two that are officially active as one is retired due to lack of focus, but retired in the sense that it is on the back burner because it was my original pen name and my catch-all kink name.
My best selling book focusing on cuckolding and BBC is doing, in my opinion, really well. I’m actually going to get pretty close to a new milestone that I didn’t think was possible for royalties in just my second month.
I didn’t think it was possible because I figured it would take longer, not because i didn’t think I’d ever get there. I’m hoping that this isn’t going to plateau though because I’ve got a long term goal for this to be more than just a side hustle, but not quite quit my day job level either.
Fuck I’m so unfocused. Again, typical.
So my next book for my cuckold/BBC pen names is probably 2/3 done. Right around 25,000 words. Thankfully, in my opinion, the hard part is done, which is the beat map. One of the main reasons I have such a difficult time writing a complete story is because I like to write from the tip of my fingers. I know some people call this being a “pants-er,” or writing by the area of their pants. I’m not a fan of that term. I just think it sounds dumb. The other term is being a plotter, or someone who plots out the entire story first. Which is why I understand the “pantser” so they go together, that doesn’t mean I have to like it.
So I write off the tip of my fingers but that only works when I sit down for a marathon session and can churn out 15,000 words in a sitting. Now, I absolutely can do that when given the time and peace, but who has the ability to sit for 5 hours without being interrupted? Not me. My problem then becomes, when do I have time to write again and will my fingers remember what they were on about.
Most of the time the answer is no.
So plotting helps. It’s against my flow, but it helps. The part about it that doesn’t help is my naturally ADHD brain. I don’t say that lightly and I’m not making fun. Although I don’t actually have ADHD I do have an inability to stay linear. It’s the reason I have probably 50 different ideas in some various state of development from half written to a single line of dialogue a character has spoken.
When I sit down to plot I can’t stop myself. I’ll either make the plot points way too detailed and end up spending an entire two hour session developing plot points rather than just getting down the structure, or I’ll end up thinking of something else in another story and start a plot outline for that so I don’t forget it. I need focus. I need discipline. I have neither.
The point of all of this? My second book is plotted out, now I just need time to write it. It’s 2/3 completed, now I just need time to finish it.
I did something I’m not completely proud of but I always seem to talk myself back into it being okay. I had a post asking if I should write my stuff here or post more on Literotica, seeing as how Literotica has way more visibility than this dinky little website I thought it would be better to get visibility through Literotica. But I ended up taking all of my stories down from Literotica in hopes of editing them and publishing them for profit. A lot of it probably isn’t able to go on Amazon though so I need to get my D2D stuff going as they accept more of the taboo elements.
So I feel bad about taking my stuff off of LIterotica. It’s a free site, which I love. It’s an archive of erotica, which is also amazing. It also isn’t flooded with pop ups and side bars that make the site look gross and a sketchy porn site. It treats erotica like something of value rather than something people need to do and feel ashamed about.
At the same time, it didn’t really benefit me in any way. I posted my stories and they got some engagement, which was the part I felt bad about taking it down. Not a ton, but I had maybe 20-30 comments across 20 or so stories, most of them were on one particular story.
The thing that did it for me was that, as far as I can tell, none of my Literotica stuff has ever contributed to a sale of my book or a funnel to my website. I’m sure a majority of that is my fault by being so inconsistent, but I just didn’t see the reason why I should keep my works up there for free when I’m trying to get some money for the stuff that could be pretty popular.
I keep getting distracted though. In everything. I’ve been poking at the Patreon idea, or some kind of serialized content like Medium or whatever. I had a grand idea of creating a publishing house under the Wilde Curiosities name and having all of these different posts, 1500-2500 words, posted various times a week by different pen names as individual authors. But then I thought the people reading Cuckold/BBC porn isn’t going to want to read about Hypno/Dubcon/Noncon porn, who may not want to read Sissy/Feminization/Bimbofication porn and wading through all of that might just turn them off.
So I’m thinking of doing WildeCuriosities as the Patreon, or whatever, and just have it non kink branded. It will have a little bit of everything.
Then I had to talk myself out of creating a serialized platform for every pen names. I actually had an idea for 5 or 6 pen names from lesbian to golden showers to sci-fi and femdom and gay. But then I thought that a golden showers/watersports name probably isn’t worth it to build a whole pen name off of because I can weave some of the stuff into other more wide tropes.
But, see, I’m running around again and off focus.
This is really just a catch up post, even though I basically had one of those.
One thing I keep trying to do is find other authors of erotica that seem like they may have a similar idea as I do. I came across this author just recently and I like the cut of their jib. I like that they have their own website and twitter handle. I like their stance on AI art work vs AI written work, because I have the same belief system in that I am a writer not an artist that can draw or paint or create digital art.
Unfortunately, to get noticed when publishing on Amazon, and anywhere really, you have to have a good cover. It’s strictly against the “don’t judge a book by its cover” but everybody does it. If you have a sexy looking cover and an unknown name people will give you a chance because you caught their attention. I like to think that someday, maybe in the future, I can find an artist I like and I can pay them to make me covers. I’ll honestly say that I’d have to luck into finding someone because I don’t see myself going out and looking for someone on my own just because I want to focus on the writing.
But the writing? That’s me. All of it. It’s my ideas, my words, my development. It’s all me because if I didn’t love writing I wouldn’t be able to do this. All of this. Blogging about writing. Writing porn. Writing poetry. Digging so deep into the world of erotic writing to give a shit.
So that’s it, for now. I have a little bit of time left and I want to see if I can rip out some stuff. I’ve got distractions nearby so my focus is split but I’m going to try to write something creative and I need to finish this up. Hopefully with my gaining momentum and the outcomes going much better than I could have anticipated I’ll be pushing myself further into this.
